Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

Part-time tutor position in a multi-site college in the University System of Georgia. The position focuses on academic support for students in the GHAME initiative (Georgia Highlands African American and Minority Male Excellence), in association with the University System of Georgia’s African American Male Initiative (AAMI). The position reports to the division dean.

Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities are to provide academic assistance to students in the GHAME initiative, which will include the following:
• Tutoring in both individual and group settings on our Marietta site.
• Tutoring online as needed.
• Working with GHAME students on test preparation and study skills.
• Maintaining documentation on student tutoring sessions.
• Working with GHAME faculty and staff to provide greater student success.
• Willingness to adjust work schedule to accommodate GHAME students.

Key Qualifications

• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of an associates degree. Bachelors or graduate degrees welcome.
• Experience in tutoring preferred.
• Proficiency in core subject areas for English, math, science, and social sciences.
• Proficiency in online communication.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of University System of Georgia and Georgia Highlands College policies and procedures
• Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs
• Knowledge of diversity issues and related programs, and in particular the USG’s AAMI and GHC’s GHAME initiatives
• Ability to work effectively with faculty and staff colleagues, with students, and with community partners
• Skill in the completion of required reports
• Skill in oral and written communication

Salary $10.00/Hour
